Hands-On Workshop: Building Applications which Leverage SAP HANA®

Day 1:
The first day of the session will provide a comprehensive introduction to SAP HANA, introduction to developing in the SAP HANA Studio, and a hands-on modeling section focusing on needs of the technical administrator and modeling/developer audiences. In the overview part of the session, presenters will discuss the technologies, components, and deployment options of SAP HANA. We will also learn the setup of the SAP HANA Studio and the creation of initial projects in SAP HANA Native Development. In the modeling hands-on section, speakers will introduce you to the various types of SAP HANA modeling views including attribute, analytical, and calculation views, which can be used to build very complex data flows at the database level.

Day 2:
In this hands-on workshop, presenters will introduce various techniques for building applications on SAP HANA. They will explore OData and server-side JavaScript services and show you how to push down data centric processing logic into the SAP HANA database via the usage of SQLScript. Explore both major application server layers, ABAP, and SAP HANA Application Services, and how they can each be used to build or adapt applications to leverage the power of SAP HANA.

Hands-On Exercises for:

  • Writing SQLScript
  • Adapting existing ABAP reports to use SAP HANA artifacts
  • Build new ABAP applications using SAP HANA specific tools (based in SAP NetWeaver® 7.40)
  • Create lightweight REST services directly in SAP HANA using SAP HANA Application Services
  • Apply a SAPUI5-based HTML5 user interface upon these SAP HANA services and applications
  • Instructors: Rich Heilman & Thomas Jung, SAP Labs
