OMS+ is equipped with Machine Learning. One more time for the people in the back… DataXstream’s OMS+ solution now uses Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to enhance its capability. As if it’s not already stellar.
“The DataXstream development team is currently building out functionality to determine how the material search does over time using the machine learning methods.” Katherine Guglielmo, Development Lead at DataXstream told me in an update Wednesday morning. “Our team is using AWS (Amazon Web Services) and API (Application Program Interface) text extraction tool to extract text from uploaded documents.”
As part of the upgrade to OMS+ DataXstream’s development team is also building out OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology to process documented orders swiftly. When an order is received as a fax, pdf, email or a handwritten list form, the document can be scanned and processed. Seb Meekins, Senior Developer, explained, “This digitized technology captures information from the physical space to a format that can be processed digitally… this is less error prone in ways that humans can be fatigued.”
Inputting data can be a laborious task for any CSR to analyze, compile and list. If we speed up the process by using OCR automation, we can automatically extract and capture images from a document and create editable searchable data that is categorized. This categorization gives separate items familiar recognition within the program allowing OMS+ to sort & offer accurate more precise specifications. Additionally, by using automation it eliminates the human factor of miscalculation, menial busy work, and focuses sales reps time on essential client services.
Imagine if you were a Customer Service Representative and you had to cross-reference multiple systems to find your specified items for order fulfillment. Bouncing from multiple screens to search for an item you knew was available but listed under a different name; the timeliness of the endeavor would be wasteful. Not to mention the quantity of your list maybe extensive with hundreds of possible item details as options. Countless customers have complained of the same issues using other solutions. Programming OMS+ to search using Machine Learning became a vital priority for our development team as we progress forward accommodating our customer’s needs.
DataXstream’s Data Scientist Juichia Holland began the journey of updating OMS+ as a customer requirement. Many businesses specify the necessity of matching material descriptions of customer requests into the SAP system. The AI capabilities enable it to study large complex data sets with great accuracy. Based on the data, from prior experience, the machine learning system makes predictions to decipher content. After sourcing the customer database, their data is ‘wrangled’ by removing duplicates, cleaned, and checked for accuracy to authenticate the collection. As the machine learning models work, more data is collected allowing OMS+ to update its logic and give output based on its collective experience of previously studied data. Yeah, our solution is clever.
What does this mean for the SAP ERP user? Well, the OMS+ User Interface is a streamline process where similar items can be identified using advanced material search functionality. Expanding searchable data in the ML document automation saves CSR’s from the frustrating task of processing an order fulfillment in multiple screens, searching through numerous extensions and growing confused or frustrated as they cross-reference systems.
The modernized functionality of OMS+ simplifies workflow with customizable user interfaces based on your business needs. When your CSR team is focused on the customer, not trying to manage a tricky interface, it will strengthen productivity, eliminate order delays and certainly earn a smile.
[…] The experience is, of course, different this year and the DataXstream team is disappointed not to be able to see everyone in person. We enjoy meeting up with industry friends and associates, meeting new people and showing off the latest projects our team is working on. To that end we’ve been expanding OMS+ capabilities to include Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and we hope you’ll stop back in the near future for more information about those capabilities. For now you can see what Juichai is working on here “AI in OMS+ project overview” and “Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Enhance the OMS+ Experience” […]
